Sleep apnea is a condition that millions of Americans, but despite the sheer number of those affected, there is no known cure. Lifestyle changes such as physical exercise, weight loss and avoiding alcohol can improve the severity of the effects, as can surgeries. Some patients may be recommended a tonsillectomy, palatoplasty or adenoid removal. AirFit F10 Overview

The ResMed AirFit F10 is a small, lightweight full face CPAP mask that has the usability and comfort that sleep apnea patients are looking for. It features their patented dual-wall Spring Air cushions and soft fabric headgear that’s easily replaceable. There is also a quick release elbow that makes it easy to get up in the middle of the night.

The AirFit F10 makes use of the under-eye frame that eliminates the need for a forehead piece. As a result, users have a clear field of vision and can even wear glasses while hooked into the mask.

AirFit F20 Overview

Building upon the AirFit F10 technology, the newer ResMed AirFit F20 CPAP mask was designed to fit a wider range of face sizes and shapes. The addition of the Large cushion size and the adaptive wings to contour to the user’s face makes this mask more customizable in terms of fit than its predecessor. Additionally, the F20 features ResMed’s InfinitySeal loops that maintain a comfortable seal regardless of the machine’s air pressure setting.

This mask has the same basic benefits as the F10 as well: under-eye frame, soft headgear and the quick-release elbow. There is a slight variation of the F20 to fit women’s faces as well, the F20 for Her.

AirFit F30 Overview

The newest member of the AirFit family, the ResMed AirFit F30 CPAP mask, features even further changes. It is the only AirFit mask to come with four cushion sizes: extra small, small, medium and large.

The F30 is also the only mask that does not sit on the bridge of the nose. By sitting lower on the face, it prevents the redness and irritation that some users might experience with other mask models. It comes with the same lightweight frame and flexible headgear as the F10 and F20, and the elbow is not only quick release but also an air diffuser for a quieter sleep.

Key Differences

One key difference between these masks is the sizing that’s available for users. The F10 offers small and medium cushions, so those with larger faces may find themselves needing a properly sized cushion. The F20 comes with three interchangeable cushions—small, medium and large—and the F30 comes with an extra small as well.

Another key difference is how the mask fits. All three lack the forehead support seen on other mask models, so it is up to the user’s preference. The F10 has slimmed-down headgear straps and sits across the bridge of the nose for a secure fit. The F20 has adaptive wings that can help you contour the mask to your unique face. Finally, the F30 covers the least amount of your face during use, which can make some patients feel concerned it will not stay in place while the CPAP machine is on high air pressure settings.

Potential users should also be aware of the drawbacks of each mask. For the F10, the lack of inclusive sizing is a drawback for many. The F20 reportedly has straps that loosen throughout the night. ResMed cautions that F30 masks are not compatible with the brand’s AirMini travel size CPAP machine.

The Choice Is Yours

When you choose a ResMed CPAP mask, you choose a high-quality tool that will help you get back to uninterrupted sleep. It is simply a question of which mask will best meet your unique needs.
